Woahhh! It’s been quite some time since I did my last blog post, but I have to admit, things have been a little hectic!
As some of you know, myself and a few other creatives set up Yorkshire Coast Gigs, which launched in July 2013. This new online music guide is designed to help both local folk and visitors to the Yorkshire Coast area help find what music is on and where. Not only that, but we have some fantastic contributors that review gigs, as well as interview both local and visiting artists.
Yorkshire Coast Gigs has now become a Community Interest Company which is designed to help promote the local musicians, venues and support the cultural, artistic and economic life of the area. There are a number of new projects coming up, so keep your eyes open!
Yorkshire Coast Gigs continues to zap up most of my spare time, and when I’m not sat doing website admin work I’m out and about shooting shows for our reviews. The photo archive is now up to date with most of the gigs I’ve covered, so head on over and check them out! I’ll also be backdating some blog posts over the next few weeks, to include some of my favourite gigs I’ve covered.
It dawned on me a couple of months ago that I was spending a lot of time and money on my printed portfolio. Although I prefer the quality and feel of a physical print it just didn’t seem the best way to move forward when the portfolio was constantly changing, with worthy shots every month or so.
It was a sad moment, but I realised that I had to jump on board with digital presentation as it’s quicker, can be tailored to individual clients and much cheaper in the long run. I eventually went with the ‘Portfolio for iPad app’ by Britton Mobile Development due to the vast amount of control, upload options and lock facility if it were to be sent away for review.
I’ve read some great articles on how promotional mailers can help photographers, particularly when starting out or showing off the latest project. With this new venture I thought it would be a great idea to send out a set of three postcards, introducing my name change for commercial photography and to present my music, performance and portrait photography. These mailers will be all stamped up and ready to post by the end of the week.
